This past month, I stepped into a completely different world—one that sits just beyond the page.
I traveled to New York City for Pitch Fest, where I had the opportunity to present The Silence in the Sound to multiple filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals. It was fast-paced, a little surreal, and one of the most exciting things I’ve done as a writer. You spend years alone with a story, shaping it sentence by sentence, and then suddenly you’re sitting across from someone asking, “Why this story? Why now?”
And you have minutes to answer.

One of the biggest pieces of that experience was my proof of concept, which ended up receiving the most views at the event.
For those who aren’t familiar, a proof of concept is essentially a short visual piece—like a mini film or cinematic teaser—that captures the tone, mood, and emotional core of a story. It isn’t the full movie. It’s a way of showing filmmakers what the story could look and feel like on screen. Instead of just telling them, you let them see it.
To see mine resonate the way it did was something I won’t forget.
In addition to Pitch Fest, I’ve also signed a shopping agreement with a production company. That means they are now actively pitching The Silence in the Sound to filmmakers and studios, working to find the right team to bring it to life.
This part of the process is both exciting and uncertain. The official Pitch Fest results come back in one to two months, and with any luck, a few of us authors will move forward with development opportunities or contracts.
There are no guarantees in this space. That’s the truth.
But there is momentum.
And there is something powerful about watching a story that started in your own head begin to take steps into the world in a completely new way.
So now I wait, like every writer who has ever dared to imagine their work beyond the page, hoping the right people saw what I see in it.
Because if this story makes that leap…
Just imagine The Silence in the Sound as a film.
And if you’ve been thinking about writing your own story—whether it’s something personal, something you’ve carried for years, or the beginning of a novel—I created something for you.
